Ian understands the importance of protecting his client’s valuable assets and helps achieve this through securing patents, trademarks, and copyrights where appropriate, as well as developing best practices to protect trade secrets and proprietary knowledge. He works with clients to navigate the competitive landscape by preparing non-infringement and freedom to operate opinions. When disputes arise, Ian represents clients in bringing and defending actions related to their intellectual property. Ian also assists from negotiation to closing on a variety of transactions, including acquisitions, sales, and licenses. He helps clients manage service provider, co-development, and cross-promotion relationships to ensure all parties maximize outcomes.

Ian counsels businesses through all stages of formation and operations, including entity selection, state filings, foundational documents, and ongoing governance. He leads clients through common and preferred equity issuances, private placements, and debt financing transactions, ensuring compliance with regulators and protecting his client’s interests. Ian has experience with complex corporate arrangements, including parent-subsidiary relations, special purpose vehicles, joint ventures, and SPACs.

Educational and Professional Background

Ian graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida College of Law, where he was a member of the Journal of Technology Law and Policy and president of the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Association. While there, he received CALI awards for the highest course grade in Business Enterprises, Patent Law, Evidence, and Florida Constitutional Law. During law school, Ian worked for a boutique California firm serving the legal cannabis industry. Prior to law school, Ian founded and participated in several startups focused on social influence and crowdfunding. Ian holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a concentration in Acoustic Engineering from Purdue University.

Ian is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to practice in the State of Florida.
